DIN 125 A Flat Washers, without chamfer, are a thin disk with a concentric hole and are one of the most popular flat washers. When placed under a nut or the head of a screw, the washer increases the bearing surface area and consequently distributes the clamping force over a larger area. That result is desirable when working with soft materials and holes that are too large or oddly shaped to properly support the screw head or nut.
